- 1st teeth: bottom central incisors 7 mos, then top central incisors, then
finish off the bottom ones by ate 8 mos. Has all incisors by 9 mos.
- Irritability is the most frequently associated symptom
- Many of the problems associated with teething may be coincidental
developmental processes and events
- Teething may be associated with, and not be the cause of: mild fever,
drooling, crying, or feeding and sleeping difficulties
- One study did indicate that teething babies could have a temp of up to 100.3, but temps higher have another cause
- Teething does not cause diaper rashes, facial rashes, or diarrhea
- use of a pacificer or thumbsucking can cause teeth to come in wrong; orthodontic pacifiers can be used up to one year
- try hylands natural tablets, teething ring, biscuit, pretzel, or frozen
washcloth; rubbing the erupting tooth with a finger may be helpful; watch out for frozen teething rings - frostbite; try chilled teething rings or frozen fruit instead.
- an analgesic, like acetaminophen or topical anesthetic (beware of
overdosage and
Methemoglobinemia); although teething gels don't last long. And a dose of tylenol before naps or bedtime is probably enough, but don't use too much- can mask other symptoms
- use mesh nets for teething biscuits to prevent breaking off and aspiration
of large chunks

Primary teeth 6 mos-3 yrs, permanent teeth 5-16 yrs.
Primary Dentition
7 mos: bottom central incisors
8 mos: top central incisors and bottom lateral incisors
9 mos: top lateral incisors
13 mos: all 1st primary molars
17 mos: all canines
22 mos: all 2nd primary molars (all teeth are in)
Permanent dentition
6 yo: 1st permanent molars
7 yo: bottom central incisors
8 yo: top central incisor, bottom lat incisor
9 yo: top lateral incisor
10: bottom canines, top 1st bicuspid
11: bottom 1st bicuspid, top 2nd bicuspid, top canines
12: bottom 2nd bicuspid and all 2nd permanent molars
19: 3nd permanent molars (wisdom teeth)
