Definition of MR requires:

1. Limitation in intellectual function (low IQ) AND
2. Problems with adaptive functioning (social skills, practical skills)

• Mild MR (IQ 50-69): 3rd-6thgrade reading level, likely lives/works independently
• Moderate MR (IQ 35-49): 1st-3rdgrade reading level, lives in home with support, works with supervision
• Severe MR (IQ 20-34)
• Profound MR (IQ<20)
