Lipidoses

• Disorders with inherited abnormalities of lipid metabolism and involve those lipids containing sphingosine (a primary component of myelin)
• Results in abnormal accumulation of the specific lipids with CNS white matter
• Examples include: Niemann-Pick disease, Gaucher disease, Krabbe disease, metachromatic leukodystrophy, Tay-Sachs Disease, and generalized gangliosidosis
