Congenital Heart Disease Pearls

• VSD is the most common form of CHD (20%) in peds
• TOF is the second most common form of CHD (10-15%) ANDthe most common cyanotic lesion
• SBE prophlaxis is not needed for secundum ASD
• Left axis deviation think: AV canal, tricuspid atresia
• Aortic stenosis think: Williams Syndrome
• Valvular pulmonic stenosis think: Noonan’s Syndrome
• Congenital Rubella: PDA, branch pulmonary stenosis, hearing loss, cataracts, blueberry muffin rash
• 80% of coarcts have associated bicuspid aortic valve
• Don’t forget hypoplastic left heart syndrome, critical aortic stenosis, COA in the differential for shocky, septic appearing neonate
