Congenital Heart Disease Pearls
- VSD is the most common form of CHD (20%) in peds
- TOF is the second most common form of CHD (10-15%) ANDthe most common
cyanotic lesion
- SBE prophlaxis is not needed for secundum ASD
- Left axis deviation think: AV canal, tricuspid atresia
- Aortic stenosis think: Williams Syndrome
- Valvular pulmonic stenosis think: Noonan’s Syndrome
- Congenital Rubella: PDA, branch pulmonary stenosis, hearing loss,
cataracts, blueberry muffin rash
- 80% of coarcts have associated bicuspid aortic valve
- Don’t forget hypoplastic left heart syndrome, critical aortic stenosis,
COA in the differential for shocky, septic appearing neonate
