Coarctation of Aorta
- Occurs in 10% of all CHD
- Usually at the level of the ductus
- Associated bicuspid aortic valve
in 80%
- 2 presentations
- symptomatic infant (CHF and shock in first 6 weeks of life)
- asymptomatic child (normal growth, UE HTN, weak/absent or delayed pulses
in LE)
- EKG: RVH in infants; LVH in older children
- CXR: cardiomegaly and pulmonary edema in infants; rib notching and “3
sign” in older children
- Lifelong SBE prophylaxis is indicated
