Coarctation of Aorta

• Occurs in 10% of all CHD
• Usually at the level of the ductus
• Associated bicuspid aortic valve in 80%
• 2 presentations
  • symptomatic infant (CHF and shock in first 6 weeks of life)
  • asymptomatic child (normal growth, UE HTN, weak/absent or delayed pulses in LE)
• EKG: RVH in infants; LVH in older children
• CXR: cardiomegaly and pulmonary edema in infants; rib notching and “3 sign” in older children
• Lifelong SBE prophylaxis is indicated
