Aortic Stenosis

• Mild: asymptomatic
• Moderate: exercise intolerance
• Severe: syncope, exertional chest pain, sudden death
• Infants with critical AS present with shock/CHF
• SEM at URSB, transmits to neck and apex +/-ejection click
• Narrow or paradoxically split S2 in severe AS
• EKG: may show LVH in severe cases
• CXR: prominent aortic knob
• SBE prophylaxis is indicated
• If suspect aortic stenosis, restrict from competitive sports until cardiac evaluation complete.
• HCMP may present with similar findings
